Little kid chimpanzee’s new mother is a staff member at Baltimore Zoo

A singular animal joined the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore in September 2020. That new occupant was a lovable child chimpanzee named Maisie. They had never seen a child like this before.

Maisie had previously resided at the Oklahoma City Zoo prior to her arrival in Baltimore. Sadly, her birth mother was unable to provide her with adequate care, so she was brought to the Maryland Zoo to be hand-reared by staff.

Maisie’s upbringing was a lot like raising a human child in many ways. She needed diapers and enrichment opportunities. Maisie, like any human child, came with a lot of unanticipated costs.

Taking care of a baby takes a lot of time and money, as any parent will tell you.

The Maryland Zoo stated in their video that „caring for an infant chimp comes with significant expenses, including the costs of diapers, formula, and enrichment.“

Even so, there were times when taking care of Maisie that brought me joy.

She loved being tickled, just like a human infant, and when her foster parent played with her, she would flash a gummy smile.

In order to ensure that they could continue to provide Maisie with the assistance and care she required, the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore As a result, they came up with a fundraiser to help cut down on the rising costs of keeping a chimpanzee.
